We specialise in compensation claims for all types of personal injuries but particularly industrial diseases such as asbestos illnesses, bladder cancer, occupational asthma, dermatitis, silicosis and other forms of pneumoconiosis. We also deal with accidental claims including head and spinal trauma.
We have a clinical negligence department.
John Pickering and Partners are specialist personal injury lawyers with 3 offices in the north of England. We were established in 1979 and the firm specialises in industrial disease and in particular, claims for asbestos related illness. We deal with claims for the asbestos related diseases; asbestosis, mesothelioma, lung cancer and diffuse pleural thickening.
We only act for victims of asbestos disease and do not represent employers or organisations that caused asbestos exposure or their insurers. We act for clients nationally and internationally and although based in northern England, we act for clients all over the UK. We also act for asbestos sufferers abroad who may live in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Malta, USA, Canada, etc.
We have acted for asbestos sufferers in most of the leading test cases in this area. Several ofo ur cases have been heard by the House of Lords and we were involved in the Fairchild appeals, acting for two of the three claimants in the landmark judgement that preserved the rights of mesothelioma victims to recover compensation. We also acted for Mrs Barker in Barker v Corus UK Pls, the case that was the impetus for Parliament to introduce legislation to protect mesothelioma victims.
We represented Alice Jefferson, a mesothelioma sufferer, whose illness and compensation claim against Cape Asbestos were featured in the important documentary "Alice: A Fight For Life". Shown by Yorkshire Television in July 1982, the programme was an important catalyst for legal change and public awareness of the plight of the victims of asbestos.
We have been consistently high ranked by law guides. The Chambers 2008 law guide ranked us as one of the Best of the UK for carrying out industrial disease litigation. The Legal 500 Guide stated in its 2007 edition that the firm "..has a formidable track record in industrial disease claims, particularly claims relating to asbestos and occupational asthma."
We are on the panels of several prominent asbestos support groups nationwide. Most of our cases are done via conditional fee agreements.
We also have a clinical negligence department and carry out other personal injury claims including severe head injury and spinal injury claims.
